For Nurses Who Still Care Deeply
You entered this profession to help, heal, and make a difference.
But somewhere between moral injury, emotional overload, and the relentless pressure to keep going — joy can begin to feel out of reach. The laughter that used to come easily starts to feel forced, or worse, inappropriate.
It's not. Humor is one of the oldest tools of care. And it belongs back in your hands.
This workshop is for nurses who want to reclaim it — not as a coping mechanism that masks pain, but as a genuine therapeutic resource that can restore connection, ease tension, and bring a little more humanity into the work.
This isn't about telling jokes. It's about using humor the way you use any clinical skill.
Humor for the Health of It™ is a live, small-group virtual workshop designed to help you reconnect with your own sense of humor, restore your capacity for joy, and learn how to use therapeutic humor with greater intention, compassion, and confidence.
We start by nourishing your humor from the inside — because you can't consistently offer others what you're not also receiving yourself. From there, you'll build practical skills for using humor appropriately with patients, families, and colleagues.
You'll walk away with a framework you can actually use on Monday morning.
The 5 Rights of Humor Administration™
Just as medication requires careful judgment, so does humor. This proprietary framework — built for clinicians, by a clinician — gives you a structure you already understand.
1. Right Patient
Humor should fit the person receiving it — their personality, culture, emotional state, and readiness.
2. Right "Drug"
The best humor is gentle, respectful, and appropriate to the situation — with the goal of helping, not performing.
3. Right Route
A smile, a warm story, a playful word choice — the method should match the setting and the needs of the person.
4. Right Amount
Too little may not ease tension; too much can feel forced or insensitive. Dose matters.
5. Right Time
After trust is built, when the person is receptive — and never when it minimizes pain or fear.
The questions nurses actually ask — but rarely get to discuss.
- When does humor help — and when can it hurt?
- How do I know if a patient, family member, or colleague is truly receptive?
- How can humor support resilience without becoming sarcasm or forced positivity?
- How do I use humor with cultural humility and without causing harm?
- How can I bring more genuine joy back into my own nursing practice?
Practical tools. Real reflection. Something you'll actually use.
- A clear, nurse-centered framework for when and how to use humor therapeutically
- Simple practices to nourish your own sense of humor and protect against burnout
- Confidence to bring lightness into difficult moments — without minimizing them
- Real-life examples you can adapt to your unit, your patients, your team
- Reflective exercises you can return to long after the workshop ends
Two sessions. Small group. Live and interactive.
This isn't a recorded course you'll forget to finish. It's a live experience — with space for conversation, reflection, and connection with other nurses who get it.

I've been a nurse for over 35 years — and for decades, I've been on a mission to bring the power of humor back into nursing. As a speaker, author, and nurse theorist, I've seen what happens when nurses lose their joy: they leave. And nurses are too precious, their work too important, and their patients too deserving for that to happen.
Therapeutic humor isn't a luxury. It's one of the most powerful, accessible, and portable self-care tools a nurse can have. I know this not just professionally, but personally — I couldn't have survived this career without it. This workshop is my way of putting that tool directly in your hands.
This workshop is for nurses who still believe joy belongs in the work.
